eFashion Dream Star Rotating Projector Lamp

This lamp arrived with the package torn.. It worked for less than one minute on battery it does work on USB only now. It is very flimsy and CHEAP!!! I guess I got what I paid for. I bought this as a Christmas gift for our autistic grandson to help him fall asleep. Now I am shopping for one that will actually work. There is no return info and the box is written all in Chinese and it was shipped from China to me! The only reason I gave it one star is because I had to to write this…… …

Philips PD9016/37 9-inch Portable LCD Dual

Installed in a 2011 Dodge CaravanI went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to put an above DVD player or the seats. I ultimately decided to go with the seats as it was WAY cheaper. I am glad I did.-Install– Install was very easy. I have yet to adjust these since I installed them 4 months ago. the only dumb thing is the AV cable they include with it..it is WAY TOO SHORT! Easily remedied though(see below)-Clarity– These look ok but definitely not superb. Very pixilated. I knew that when I bought it and the kids don’t know any different.Pros-Dual players. It is SOOO nice to be able to play 2 different movies. I wouldn’t have it any other way.-We have both units on our front seats and our son in the back watches them just fine.-Sound is sufficient and not too bothersome up front. They can get pretty loud if you need them to.Cons- VERY MINOR CONS-Short av cord baffles me.easy fix-Not being able to control them up front kind of stinks but if your kids are old enough, you get used to it.-No remote controls are a bummer. I would have paid extra to have them.-They do kind of get in the way when your kids get into the van but they are very durable and the kids learn.-Our two year old sometimes likes to push the buttons on the front with her feet…. A different location would have been better.I would definitely recommend this player to anyone. For those who do not like the short AV cord…here is what you need to get the “trip” wire fixed. I could not find a long AV cable so this was my solution. Your second screen may dim a bit more due to the length but it’s not bad at all. I never did compare the two but I do know one of my screens is a bit more dim.Total cost- Approx. $8QTY 2 – Sony VMC20FR AV Cable[…]QTY 1 – Female to Female 3 RCA Connector[…]-ShayFirst off, I really like these units and they play and look great just as long as you use the DVD player for each screen individually. The real disappointment comes into play when connecting the two units together to play the same video. The fact that the product uses analog connectivity and only comes with a 3 foot long AV …

Sonos PLAY:5 All-in-One Wireless Music Player

SONOS IN GENERALI’ve been using Sonos since 2009, and it’s been flawless, an absolute joy. I’ve got instant, automatically-updated access to all of my iTunes Tracks, Artists, Playlists and Albums. Sonos also has an excellent implementation of Pandora, Rhapsody (and other music services) and Internet radio. It’s such a pleasure to hear them throughout the house and Patio, controlled by my iPhone, and with full broadband quality sound. The flexibility and ease of use are equally impressive. Each zone can play any independent track or other music choice, or be instantly grouped (synchronized) with any number of other zones. Even when zones are synchronized, it’s a snap to control (a) the volume of any individual zone within the group or (b) the volume of the entire group while automatically maintaining the relative levels you’ve previously set. The ability to simultaneously play different tracks in different rooms from a single iTunes library, attached to a single computer, is an impressive technological feat that can not be achieved with a standard Apple AirPlay device. (You can also play music from multiple libraries on one or more computers). Any or all of those zones can be beautifully controlled by a single iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, android or by any number of such controllers.I also have an Apple Airport Express linked to a sonos line-in, so that my friends can stream music to my sonos system, directly from their iPhones/iPads using Apple Airplay. That works well, but sometimes a streaming iPhone will loose its WiFi connection as you move about the house. (Of course, iPhone/Airplay WiFi streaming glitches are not sonos related problems. This is more of an illustration of how a WiFi based streaming system is likely to work in general.) Nonetheless, it’s great to have Airplay available for friends. My Sonos system has been absolutely flawless, with a consistent, intuitive interface, and my iPhone, with its Sonos controller app, is always right there in my pocket, ready to go.Setup for all of the Sonos zones has been a snap, and the system has been a total joy from day one.SONOS Play:5Sounds every bit as good as, or better than my Bose Sound Dock. Looks great. Sets up in seconds, and moves easily between rooms when needed. It can really be cranked up in volume without distortion. Perfect. One requirement to be aware of is that you’ll either …

LG BD640 Network Wireless Blu-ray Disc

I was told by a friend that this unit was great but I could not find many reviews at amazon and actually it had only one review and was negative. I went to my local video store and they had the unit for a good price plus a 30 days money back guarantee so I gave it a try. Setup took me less than 10 minutes in total, from the moment I opened the box to the moment I was streaming a Netflix movie.I have a wireless network created with an Apple Airport Express router. I connected the LG unit to the TV with an HDMI cable (not included). Connected the unit to the AC power and connected the included USB wireless adaptor. When I turned the unit ON, the HOME screen was easy to understand, went to SETUP and clicked on NETWORK. My home network was listed, entered my password and in 30 seconds it was connected. I went to HOME, clicked on the ONLINE icon and then clicked on Netflix icon. The unit connected, gave me a Netflix code that I entered in my account using my computer and in less than 1 minute I was connected and browsing titles.Picture quality very good. Overall very satisfied. DVD quality as well as Blu-Ray quality is very good and similar to higher end units that retail for 2x more. This product works as well as the package directions and reviews indicated. Super easy set up for a novice like me. Nice slim design makes it unobtrusive and the small footprint is appreciated amidst all the other devices (satellite, DVD/VCR, sound bar.)The wireless LG dongle works flawlessly with great speed connected to our wireless router. Must say, though, that the wireless router is in the same room. Incredibly clear and crisp video through Netflix for movies made in 1969 & the 1970’s. Haven’t tried a blu-ray DVD yet (need to bring them back from being on loan.)My observations, opinions, and preferences make this a mediocre product at best. Others’ observations, opinions, and preferences may make this perfectly suitable for them. That said…This is my second BD-640. The first one arrived defective. The tray wouldn’t open. A phone call to LG Customer Service at 2:00am Pacific got very quick, courteous support, but it was still dead, Jim. So back it went. Amazon cross shipped a …

Sony BDVE500W 5.1-Channel Blu-ray

Great product from Sony, I have had it for about 2 weeks now, I have played it every day made it go through some rigorous tests. Works perfect, I did a compare with Bose 321GSX and found this to be a lot better for half the price!.Excellent surround sound effect, IPOD dock works great, rear wireless speakers are amazing, even though Sony says not to keep the unit under the shelf, it still works great and the rear wireless work perfectly.Easy setup, and looks great, I even hid the subwoofer behind the TV and did the auto calibration..sounds great.I’d recommend a 100% buy. This system is awesome. I’ve had it for about a month now and watched a few movies with it. I’m not an audiophile and this is my first surround sound system for my primary living room theater.I picked this system mainly because of the tower speakers and the S-AIR module. It’s a all in one system with a blue ray disk player that supports about 5 different digital audio codecs. It’s a clean minimalist design. I was surprised by the depth of the receiver. It’s bigger than I expected and fills the majority of shelf space in my entertainment stand. One thing that bugged me are the the buttons on the top front edge of the receiver. They are small, the same shape and color which force you to read the label to tell what they are. This makes it even more irritating because the remote doesn’t have an eject button and I had to learn which of those tiny buttons would eject my disk. I guess I’m really lazy.Assembly took all but 15 minutes. It took more time to arrange the pieces around the room. There’s a quick setup guide that will calibrate your system with an included microphone. One thing to be aware of, as with most HTIB, there are no video inputs. What this means, is that you’ll need to connect all your video sources directly to the TV or a HDMI switch. However, there are mutliple audio inputs. So for example, if you wanted to connect your XBOX 360 to this unit, you’ll have to connect your HDMI to your tv and then use an optical cable to route the audio to the receiver. Or you could use the optical out from your TV. This is not ideal, in my opinion, but then again that was …

SLS Q-Line Gold 650w 5.1 Surround

….. cause I didn’t believe it either.Quincy Jones + Studio Level speaker mfgr = quality I didn’t expect at a value I could never get through normal channels. I’m not an audiophile, but these create a better sound space than my local movie theater. I didn’t plan to add surround sound to my flat-screen till I found these, but now I actually look forward to sitting down to the sound as much as the picture with my new flat screen. For the first few weeks, we turned around on several occassions thinking someone might be in the house, when we heard a particularly clear back noise. It was eerie. On the older silver line set that I own, lab analysis shows a nice, even sound across all bandwidths except for a narrow drop off just below the voice range. When I first bought these I thought I could hear that difference playing the same song back and forth with my home audio system. Now I don’t hear it, but I think I’ve just gotten used to it. Of course my home audio system can’t touch the clean simplicity of the highs on ribbon technology speakers. As a point of comparison, when I sit in the comfy leather chair at Best-Buy to watch their top of the line set up, the sound is a little bit richer and beefier than this set up will deliver. Still, these aren’t toys themselves. At 110 pounds there’s a lot of mass in speaker magnets. When I come home to this I’m very satisfied with this sound. It’s way beyond the cheese-factor of a typical home theater in a box, conveys movie sound tracks and football games well enough to entrance (too well – I’ve gained 20 pounds) and the sense of things moving in space is believable and real. For me it’s clear enough that I’ve saved hundreds on movies I now watch at home instead of in the theater.I think the way they can do this so cheaply is by not chasing the most recent audio format/standard on the receiver. You’ll notice Dolby doesn’t say “Dolby-HD.” Note too that there’s no built disc player, etc. Just sound stuff: a tuner and an amplifier. To my ears the quality of these speakers contributes a lot more than anything in the …

Netgear WNDR3800 N600 Premium Edition Dual

Update Oct 21, 2011: At the one month mark, this router has been functioning without reboots/restarts/drops in a house full of network bandwidth hungry clients – still @ FW 1.0.0.18. I’ve even forgotten that I swapped routers – the true test of a good invisible appliance :)Update Oct 03, 2011: While I have not encountered any problems, there are complaints about the 1.0.0.18 firmware dropping wireless connections in 2.4GHz 802.11n mode and with DNS issues that require reboots of the router. A 1.0.0.19-DNS beta update has been released to fix the latter problem.###############In a span of about 6 months, Netgear has released the WNDR4000, the WNDR3800, and the WNDR4500. Unfortunately, unlike most normal product naming schemes, higher model numbers do not necessarily translate into more functionality. For instance, the WNDR3800 will have a greater impact on my own home network simply because:1. Most of my devices (incl. consoles and media devices) use the 2.4GHz spectrum (where Clear Channel helps).2. Most of my needs center around media streaming (where video mode helps). So how does it perform?################I ran some benchmarks using iPerf between two computers, connected wirelessly on the 2.4GHz band. Impressively, the WNDR3800 gave me a constant throughput of about 24 to 26 Mbps.inSSIDer also indicates that with the WNDR3800’s amplifiers, my RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) amplitude is at least 10dB better than when using my WNDR3700.In real world tests – streaming Netflix and other content was great on all my media devices.Enumerating the Pros:###############1. Easy install. Follow the simple procedure outlined in the comments below, and you’ll be online in minutes.2. Solid, stable connection with great rangeNo feature set in the world could make up for dropped connections. Fortunately, my connection is steady even diagonally across my home, through multiple walls/floors.3. Clear Channel technology. When interference is detected on the 2.4GHz band (e.g., too many packets dropped), the 3800 automatically moves its clients to a different channel. Using inSSIDer, you can see this happen over time.4. Video ModeThe 3800 can prioritize video packets on the 5GHz band, to minimize stutter.5. ReadyShare storage and CloudRouter based storage usually trades off features and performance, for convenience. Still, the WNDR3800 performed well on my network. I was even able to attach 2 drives via a USB 2.0 hub. The ReadyShare Cloud made these drives available to me over the Internet (using a downloaded applet) – even through a corporate firewall!6. Cisco Model DPC3010 DOCSIS 3.0 8×4

I had been quietly despairing for some time about occasional service dropouts with Cox’s Premier service tier. I’ve generally been happy with them for the past 10 years, even though they oversubscribe the heck out of my SoCal neighborhood. But, for the last 8 months my home’s internet connection would “go away” between 10:30AM and 1:30PM for no obvious reason. Digital TV and VoIP service were not impacted. I figured it was a maintenance reset at the head end or some such thing. Then it started happening more frequently at any and all hours, and even though I’d sometimes call in a trouble ticket to Cox, the problem would clear itself after 15-30 minutes with no trouble found. Finally I decided to swap out the old Ambit DOCSIS 2.0 modem for a new modem, even though I wasn’t upgrading my service. This was the first time I had to buy a cable modem as all previous units were provided at no charge by Cox. So I griped a bit when I went into the Cox retail store and they told me that a) my problems would likely go away by upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, and b) they’d be happy to sell me a DPC3010 for $79. A quick check online showed that Cox’s price was decent, and that it would be immediately provisioned and ready to plug in by the time I drove home. And indeed it was painless, plugging and playing without my having to call Cox service to register or authenticate the device. Not only is the DPC3010 providing 100% uptime, the upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0 hardware gives me a 3MB-5MB improvement in download speeds when compared with the old Ambit modem. And, the GigE interface to my Apple TimeCapsule router also seems to provide improved network speeds on both wired Ethernet and 802.11n wireless connections throughout my home. With 4+ months of use, I’m glad I made the purchase. This product has exceeded my expectations in every way. My speed has more than doubled from its first use. Easy working with Mediacom for the installation and the company I purchased it from was a delight to work with also.I got this so I wouldn’t have to pay Comcast monthly rental fees to use one of their modems. It works great, and was quick and easy to set up with just a quick call to Comcast technical …

Rokinon FE75MFT-S 7.5mm F3.5 UMC Fisheye

If you have always wanted a fisheye lens for your m 4/3 camera but didn’t want to spend the big bucks for the Panasonic 8mm, this could be the lens for you.Don’t let the lack of auto focus and automatic aperture control prevent you from buying this lens. It’s pretty easy to use. You must use the lens in either manual or aperture priority mode and focus is very forgiving because of the large depth of field. Automatic and Program modes will not work with this lens. If you want to check focus, you can very easily use the zoom display function and then set the focus. To use this lens, you must set your camera to “Shoot Without Lens” before using this lens because there is no electrical connections between the camera and the lens and the camera will not know that it is attached. To set the f-stop, you use a aperture ring on the lens, just like in the days before fully automatic SLRs. I normally shoot in manual or aperture priority mode, and I really like having the aperture control on the lens instead of using a control on the camera body. The size of this lens is perfect for the micro 4/3 system. It’s not too big and it’s not too small. The lens is sharp even wide open and the build quality is excellent. Yes it produces a distorted image..its a fisheye, but distortions are corrected in Photoshop or Lightroom and it does not produce a black frame around the image like other fisheyes. The Rokinon 7.5mm is great for video and HDR photos.I did a side by side test with a friends Panasonic 8mm and the image quality is pretty similar. But I have to admit, the Panasonic is easier to use because of the auto focus. This isn’t the kind of lens you will use every day so the significantly lower cost than the Panasonic 8mm is much appreciated. No regrets on this purchase.Wow, this really is an amazingly good fisheye lens. At the price it is even more incredible.First, the image quality: At F/5.6 it is razor sharp all the way into the extreme corners, at F/3.5 (wide open) it is razor sharp across almost the entire frame and is showing just the tiniest bit of softness (only visible at 200% really) in the extreme corners. I have to …
